Frequent Asked Questions
1. What is a vehicle vinyl wrap?
A vinyl wrap is a large sheet of durable, flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) vinyl applied over the car’s original paint. It can change the color of the vehicle, add custom graphics, or protect the original paint from wear and tear.
2. How long does a car vinyl wrap last?
A vinyl wrap can last anywhere from 3 to 7 years depending on the quality of the material, exposure to the elements, and how well it's maintained. Some premium wraps may last even longer.
3. Will a vinyl wrap damage my car’s paint?
No, a vinyl wrap is designed to be removable and will not damage the underlying paint if applied and removed correctly. However, if the paint underneath is damaged, old, or not in good condition, it may cause some issues when removing the wrap.
4. How much does a car vinyl wrap cost?
The cost can vary widely depending on the quality of the vinyl, the size of the vehicle, and the complexity of the installation. On average, a full wrap can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000, while a partial wrap might be cheaper.
5. Can I remove a vinyl wrap myself?
While it’s possible to remove a vinyl wrap yourself, it’s best to have it professionally removed to avoid damaging the paint. If you do it yourself, be sure to heat the vinyl with a heat gun to loosen the adhesive.
6. Can vinyl wraps be repaired?
Yes, if there’s a small tear or damage to a section of the vinyl, it can be repaired with a patch or by replacing the damaged piece of vinyl. Professional installers can help with these repairs.
7. Do vinyl wraps affect my car’s resale value?
A vinyl wrap can actually increase the resale value if it protects the car’s paint from scratches and fading. However, if the wrap is poorly applied or worn out, it could detract from the car’s value.
8. Can I wash my car after it’s been wrapped?
Yes, you can wash your car after it has been wrapped. It’s best to wash it by hand with a PH balanced soap to avoid damaging the vinyl. Harsh chemicals or high-pressure washers can harm the wrap.
9. How do I care for a vehicle wrap?
To maintain your vinyl wrap, keep it clean, avoid parking in areas with excessive heat or direct sunlight, and avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals when cleaning it. You should also regularly inspect the wrap for any signs of damage or peeling.
10. Can I wrap my car in any color or design I want?
Yes, there’s a wide variety of colors, finishes (like matte, gloss, satin), and custom designs available. You can also choose textured wraps like carbon fiber or chrome for a unique look.
11. Is a vinyl wrap a good option for advertising?
Yes! Vinyl wraps are a popular way to advertise businesses. They are effective because they turn your vehicle into a moving billboard. You can get custom graphics, logos, and messaging printed on the wrap.
12. How long does it take to wrap a car?
The time it takes to wrap a car depends on its size and complexity. A full wrap usually takes 4 to 7 days, while a partial wrap or simple design can be done in a day or two.
13. Will a vinyl wrap fade over time?
Yes, vinyl wraps can fade over time due to exposure to UV rays. However, high-quality wraps with ceramic coating UV protection are designed to resist fading for several years. Proper care and maintenance can help extend the life of the wrap.
14. Can I apply a vinyl wrap myself?
While it's possible to apply a vinyl wrap yourself, it can be very tricky, especially for large areas. Professional installers have the experience and tools to ensure the wrap is applied smoothly without bubbles, wrinkles, or damage to the vehicle's surface.
Wrap Care
The best way to make your wrap last as long as possible is to avoid prolonged exposure to UV rays, contaminants, and harsh chemicals.
To avoid long-term UV exposure, apply a ceramic coating before the wrap sees the sun. There are several ceramic coating products specifically for vinyl that will provide years of protection to reduce UV exposure and make the surface hydrophobic, making contaminants less likely to adhere.
You'll need to wash your wrapped vehicle at least once every two weeks to prevent dirt from saturating the edges and to remove corrosive contaminants like bird droppings.
Lastly, you will need to be very careful with the types of chemicals that come into contact with the wrapper. Never go through a car wash, not only because it can scratch or tear the wrap, but the chemicals used in the soap and wax mixture can deteriorate the vinyl. Never use carnauba oil/wax, solvents, tire shine or household cleaners on vinyl. Soap found in car washes generally contain carnauba wax and should be avoided. Carry a handheld sprayer already filled with vinyl-safe shampoo and a microfiber cloth for quick, convenient cleaning.
We recommend hand washing with a shampoo made specifically for vinyl (PH Balanced) at least every two weeks and cleaning with a spray to improve the ceramic coating once a month. Do not apply cleaning products to the wrap when exposed to direct sunlight.
If you don't have shade where you leave your car on a daily basis, an inexpensive car cover is an easy and practical way to reduce direct sun exposure when parked. Remember: exposure to high UV, direct pollution, and other contaminants is your car wrap's biggest enemy because it will dry out the vinyl and cause fading and eventually cracking. If your vehicle is exposed to the sun most of its life, you should coat it with ceramic, wash it with a vinyl-safe shampoo, and use a ceramic enhancement spray weekly to moisturize and extend the life of the vinyl.
